Don't get us wrong, we've been doing this for 30 plus years and counting so we really had to think about this. We never had anyone hold our hand so we had to learn the hard way. Your first time for anything can be daunting. Our first kiss, first bike ride, first job and in this case, your first catch using a spear gun.
Thankfully, knowledge is power, so is messing up and having to do it a hundred times until we get it right. Luckily we're here & feel it's our duty to pass on our skills to all of you who are apart of this crazy ride so....
Here are our 6 HOT TIPS to get you in the water and at the trigger end of spearing your first fish!
Tip No One. Stalk prey, don't chase it.
Tip No. Two. Be patient and don't rush your shots, there will always be another opportunity.
Tip No. Three. Learn about your target species, its habitat & behaviour.
Tip No. Four. Do a free diving course and learn about free diving and safety.
Tip No. Five. You don't need the best gear to get started. Buy what you can afford & get practicing.
Tip. No six. Try to get out and dive with experienced spearo's & learn from their expertise. Everyone has some knowledge to offer.
Confidence is key in the water. We always support being a strong swimmer with knowledge of reading the ocean, the weather, the tides and of course which species of fish are protected and not. There are so many rules and regulations around what we can do and take from the ocean & as conservationists we endorse following those rules to keep our ocean clean, full of life & thriving.
If you have a question about anything at all, we're always on our socials so come along for the ride and join our hunting tribe.
